P-147: Ovarian Function over Time in Adult Rats after Tubal Sterilization

Authors

Abstract:

Background: Tubal sterilizatio (TS) is a widely applied contraceptive method worldwide. Although most studies have described sterilization as a safe method, there are reports of TS complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of TS on ovarian function. Materials and Methods: The study comprised of 2 protocols A and B. A Protocol: survey ovarian hormone and B protocol: study of estrous cycle. Each of the protocols included control, sham and TS (Pomeroy) groups. In protocol A, rats serum estradiol was measured 15, 45 days 3 and 6 months after intervention. In protocol B, on days 15 and 45 and months 3 and 6 after the intervention, animal’s estrous cycle was followed for 15 days. Results: Our results showed that serum estradiol significantly decreased in rats undergone TS (p<0.05). Also TS caused irregularity in estrous cycle after 15, 45 days, 3 months, and 6 months. Conclusion: TS decreased estradiol of serum. Complications of TS may be due to decreased ovarian function.

Prooxidant-antioxidant balance and malondialdehyde over time in adult rats after tubal sterilization and vasectomy

OBJECTIVE Sterilization (tubal sterilization and vasectomy) is a widely applied contraceptive method worldwide. Although most studies have described sterilization as a safe method, there are reports of tubal ligation (TL) and vasectomy complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of TL and vasectomy on the serum oxidative stress, specifically prooxidant-antioxidant balance (...

Effects of bilateral tubal sterilization on serum oxidative stress and ovarian hormones in female rats

Introduction: Tubal Sterilization (TS) is one of the most common contraceptive methods. Some researchers believe that TL has complications, whereas there are contradictory reports about TS effects on ovarian function. The aim of this study was to evaluate the indices of oxidative stress and survey ovarian function after TS. Methods: The study groups consisted of 63 Sprague Dawley female rats. T...

Ectopic pregnancy after tubal sterilization.

Tubal sterilization is an increasingly common method of contraception. Although pregnancy after sterilization is uncommon, it can occur and may be ectopic. It is widely believed that any pregnancies after tubal sterilization will generally occur during the first year or two year after the procedure. Surprisingly, failures are not limited to the first year or two, but continued to appear at each...

P-163: Effects of Bilateral Tubal Ligation on Serum Oxidative Stress and Ovarian Function in Female Rats

Background: Tubal ligation is one of the most common contraceptive methods in the world. Some researchers believe that tubal ligation has complications. It is assumed oxidative stress can produce these complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate oxidative stress and ovarian function after tubal ligation. Materials and Methods: In this study, female rats (weighting 200-250 g) were divid...

Menstrual Abnormalities and Pain after Five Tubal Sterilization Methods: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Background and Objective:Tubal sterilization is the most popular method of permanent female contraception, yet there is considerable debate concerning the influence of this procedure on the women’s health and menstrual pattern.  Methods:We randomized 1358 women to one of the five methods of tubal sterilization; unipolar electrocauterization, bipolar electrocauterization, minilaparatomy, Pomeroy...

The Risk of Menstrual Abnormalities after Tubal Sterilization

Methods In a cross-sectional study, 112 women with the history of Pomeroy type of tubal ligation achieved by minilaparatomy as the case group and 288 women with no previous tubal ligation as the control group were assessed for menstrual abnormalities. Results Menstrual abnormalities were not significantly different between the case and control groups (p = 0.824). The abnormal uterine bleeding f...
